My journey with yoga started in my early 20s and a VHS tape of Rodney Yee. I loved how I it made me feel. I continued to do home practices until I was 40. It was during a very stressful time in my life that I knew that I needed to take my practice to the next level. Luckily, the studio I chose was 3B Yoga and my first in-person teacher became my dear friend, mentor, and teacher trainer, Wendy Kiess. I have taught in several studios around Albuquerque, but always wanted to call a place home. In January 2023, that dream came true when Wendy and I decided to open Corrales Yoga Space together. Other than my family, my greatest love in life is teaching. I am a professional violinist and have had a private violin studio for over 20 years. Teaching yoga comes naturally to me and I love the relationships I have with my students and fellow yogis. My goal for each person who comes to my class is to feel better physically, feel stronger mentally, and be more at peace in their body and in the world around them.
In my personal life, I love spending time with my family, working on projects in my old house, and playing my mandolin and violin.

In 2007, I traveled to Utah to become a certified yoga instructor under the guidance of Amy Williams, my first and most influential teacher. This experience laid the foundation for my journey in the world of yoga. In 2010, I opened 3B Yoga in ABQ, embarking on a fulfilling 13-year journey of owning and operating my own studio. During this time, I had the privilege of conducting numerous teacher trainings, certifying other aspiring yoga instructors as well as the daily instruction of many yogis. The opportunity to share my passion for yoga has been a true honor that I hold in high regard.
Since 2007, I have made it a priority to continually expand my knowledge and skills in yoga by participating in annual educational programs and working with various instructors. My goal has always been to provide my students with the best possible instruction, enabling them to enhance their practice. In 2022, I pursued certification as a personal trainer, recognizing the value of not only improving movement but also enhancing strength. Furthermore, in 2023, I successfully obtained my Corrective Exercise certification. These additional qualifications, along with my extensive experience teaching and studying yoga, have equipped me to be an effective instructor. I firmly believe that strength and mobility are two crucial aspects that can significantly enhance one's life.
When you attend one of my classes, my primary goal is to create a welcoming environment where you feel comfortable. I strive to identify areas of restriction and assist you in finding movement. Additionally, I aim to promote relaxation within your nervous system and empower you to discover the strength necessary to support your body on its unique journey.

Julie Deife

julie@wakemeupyoga.com

Julie has been teaching Yoga and meditation since early 2000. Julie is a certified LifeForceYoga teacher - a program developed by Amy Weintraub and certified by Yoga Alliance- and teacher of Integrative Restorative Yoga Nidra Meditation (iRest for short) - a certified meditation program developed by Richard Miller, also in early 2000. iRest is a contemporary evidence-based adaptation of Yoga Nidra.
In one-hour classes students lie down (some prefer to sit supported against a wall) while they relax, restore and renew. During the class the teacher guides students in exploring the sheaths of the physical body, the breath and energy, feelings, emotions, thoughts, beliefs, images and memories, joy and equanimity; consciousness, emptiness, formlessness and everything just as it is. IRest Yoga Nidra is the most relaxing practice offered in Yoga.
Join Julie in practicing 'the sleep of the yogi' and awake totally relaxed and alert. Classes are offered most Wednesdays at 2 pm. One-hour classes, $20.
Prior to committing to teaching Yoga, Julie produced five national yoga conferences (the first was held at the Albuquerque Convention Center); and while living in Los Angeles Julie created the popular magazine LAYOGA Ayurveda and Health. Julie also created a publication for the International Association of Yoga Therapists called 'Yoga Therapy Today.'
